To continue to improve myself as a leader, I have made a conscious effort to expand my tribe. I have seen that your network will affect your net worth; if the people in your tribe aren’t striving for something greater, odds are you won’t either.
I have allowed myself to be in rooms in which I am not the smartest person; in fact, I look for those rooms. I realize that there are people that want to share what they have learned, and therefore I am always willing to embrace the position of a student. By being willing to take the seat of a student, I increase my foresight and challenge my perspective; furthermore, I firmly believe that iron sharpens iron.
Another thing I have done to enable me to continue improving as a leader is always revisiting my vision; I try to ensure that it is crystal clear to my team and me. Therefore, by always revisiting the established vision, there’s no way to fall even a tad to the left or to the right of it; we don't miss the mark.
Finally, embracing the pushback has also allowed me to keep improving as a leader. I do not shut my team out when they bring something up, but rather even at that moment, I acknowledge that anyone can provide perspective and insight to better work towards the established vision. Doing this doesn’t undermine my authority as a leader; it simply empowers my team with the vision they’ve bought into.
