Can values change, and if so, what causes them to change? Values can and do change, yet specific core values may remain unchanged for a long time. Changes in knowledge, societal and cultural values and traditions, and changes resulting from an individual's personal life experience all contribute to the changes in our core values.
As we age, we have extensive and significant life experiences that impact our worldview and, thus, our values. Beginning a new profession, becoming a parent, or taking up a new pastime are all examples of experiences that might affect your perspective and values. Many of us may go through life without questioning our ideals until a tragedy or life throws us a curveball.
It's one thing to be conscious of and express your values. But what if you consciously chose your values and ranked them differently? We typically let life happen and push us to change, but what if we were willing to self-evaluate and make the required changes? When you review your core values, ask yourself if number one should be there. Or did I put it wherever it shouldn't have been?

Regardless of life's changes, investing in your core values provides an emotional bedrock under challenging times and is an investment with a significant ROI (return on investment).
