They say patience is a virtue, but we often treat patience like a villain.
We often treat the word patience as though it's keeping us away from something, something better than what we currently have.
The truth is that patience is not a villain; patience is being developed in us. Furthermore, patience is found in the intersection of faith and hope.
Faith looks at the past; it reminds us of the breakthrough moments we have experienced. Faith works in tandem with hope, as hope looks towards the future. Therefore, while faith reminds us of the glory we have experienced, hope encourages us that we can and will experience a newer glory in the future.
And in between faith and hope lives patience. Patience is the ability to wait based on faith.
Not only do we look at the future as a place of abundance, but we know it's worth the wait, and we eagerly await the glory that's up ahead. It's not that we take our eyes off of the work we are currently doing, but instead, we work knowing that this will produce something more powerful, and it's worth the wait.
Like parents to be that await the arrival of their baby, they call the baby beautiful even without having seen them face to face. So, you and I must eagerly await the breakthrough moment we are about to experience. Furthermore, notice the parents' preparation, all in the spirit of getting ready. The question now becomes, what have we done to prepare for what we've been waiting for?
Patience is a virtue, they say, but let's not ignore that it rewards those who work while they wait.
