Leading With A Vison

Leading With A Vision

Paul quickly mentions his purpose of building up the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth within his letter to Titus. Paul also mentions that he has been entrusted with the message of salvation by God. This opening statement by Paul allows us to understand that his commitment to the word and his work was with God and not anyone else. He has a firm grip on what his mission as a leader is. Therefore, the individual who desires to be a leader must be committed to God's calling; furthermore, they should lead by example, and as Paul continues to note, they should live a life that is congruent with their purpose.

In comparison to the committed person, Paul begins to address that some hold positions of authority but are not worthy of it. The sole purpose why a leader has been entrusted with the authority they possess is to ensure the lives of others are enriched. The individual who lives a life of service to others is worthy of the authority given. However, those who seek their pleasure are not. Furthermore, it should be that when sharing the message we have, we would have nothing to be ashamed of, regardless of our age, gender, societal or economic status.

Paul is unmistakable with his vision in his letter to Titus and how Titus is part of that. A leader should explain their vision and help others see themselves as part of that vision. While the purpose is not sharable, the vision is, and Paul is clear, Titus is a significant part of it. Paul provides clear instructions to Titus to ensure the success of his vision and that of Titus' purpose.

As a leader, I try to communicate my vision of the projects effectively when working with a team. I understand that some may easily see themselves in the vision or how they fit into it; however, I try to be as clear about that vision and how others could help, such as Paul was with Titus. I find that being of service to others allows me to further an understanding of my purpose and the gift God has entrusted me with, which also helps me better understand the mission he wants me to complete.
