I believe there's a relationship between faith and hope. Faith looks towards the past; it reminds us of breakthrough moments and the blessings we have experienced or obtained. Whereas hope looks towards the future and allows us to understand that we could once again encounter incredible blessings.
In the intersection of faith and hope lives gratitude. Indeed, it doesn't matter what blessings you have had or will have if you aren't grateful, you won't see their value.
Cultivating gratitude requires understanding that an answered prayer in your life is something that someone else is still waiting for. My wife and I prayed to have children many years ago, something the doctors said was impossible. Today, we can enjoy the blessing of having three daughters. Knowing some people are still waiting for their miracle elevates me to when it seemed like an uphill battle and the joy we felt when our daughter was born. This causes gratitude in my life, and it brings me to elevate a prayer for those who are still waiting.
Therefore, where faith reminds us of those blessings we've been entrusted with, gratitude reminds us others are still waiting for their answered prayer. With this is hope, who not only provokes the belief that more extraordinary things are yet to come for us but also for those who still believe in their blessings.
