George Washington Carver was born some time in the early-mid 1860s into slavery in Diamond, Missouri, during the Civil War years. Like most children of slaves, the exact date of his birth is uncertain although it may have been 1964.


Although he was born into slavery, George Washington Carver rose to become one of the most prominent scientists and inventors of his time.


George Washington Carver was an American agricultural scientist and inventor who promoted alternative crops to cotton and methods to prevent soil depletion. He was the most prominent black scientist of the early 20th century.
